Fifth Generation Camaro (2010 - ...)

In the last section, we saw that General Motors ceased the production of Chevrolet Camaro by 2002 citing various reasons. The average American did not forget about the car. The pressure was building within the company to reintroduce the Camaro once again. The engineers began to work on a new prototype model. The public got a glimpse of the upcoming Chevrolet Camaro by 2006 at the North American International Auto Show. This concept car featured a 6.0L engine, which could easily generate 400hp. It came with a six-speed manual transmission system along with Active Fuel Management techniques.

One year later, in the same auto show, the company displayed the 2007 Camaro Convertible Concept car. Elaborate structural changes made to the default model made it stand apart from the competition. Auto enthusiasts across the country began to anticipate the release of the all-new Chevrolet Camaro by this time. By 2008, this dream of the natives became a reality with the company making a formal announcement regarding the variants that are in store for the customers. Primarily, General Motors came up with five different trim levels to satisfy the craving of ardent motorists.

The company ensured to get the message to the audience by implementing certain advanced features on the new Camaro. For instance, the earlier mentioned Active Fuel Management system enabled the car to utilize just four cylinders during low load conditions. The four wheels now came with independent suspension systems with disc brakes, variable power steering facilities and electronic traction / stability control mechanisms. Sensors affixed on various components of the car ensured a steady stream of inputs to the computer system found within the new Camaro.

In 2009, General Motors introduced the Transformers Special Edition Chevrolet Camaro to the masses with just as much power as The Corvette ZHZ. Now the car owners had the provision to purchase various packages to augment the look of their ride - keeping it in tune with the car found in the then released Transformers movie. Just 1784 units of the Transformers Special Edition ply on the roads as of now (the company limited the production to maintain the Special Edition tagging). In 2010, the company once again made news because they announced the new Synergy Special Edition. It came with the "Connectivity and Convenience Package". Now the driver could connect their Bluetooth enabled phone with the car. The MP3 player affixed into the car had provision to plug in USB drives. The company manufactured just 2425 units of Synergy Special Edition cars.

By April 2010, the company displayed the Indianapolis 500 Pace Car (another limited edition offering). The 2011 is going to be an exciting year for Camaro fans because the company plans to introduce better performing models. A 312hp engine is on the cards as of now. The company has plans to introduce a renovated HUD in this car. According to company estimates, 2009 saw a surge in the sales with approximately 61,600 units being sold through the official dealers.
